Services Held Tuesday For Norma Neessen

Funeral services for Mrs. Norma Neessen were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Second Christian Reformed Church in Wellsburg, with the Rev. William Van Hal officiating. Burial was in the Wellsburg Reformed Church cemetery.

Special music during the service was provided by vocalists Mrs. Ivan Slifer and Mrs. Harold Okones, and Miss Monica Doyen was organist.

Casket bearers were Gary Neessen, Jim Brainerd, Mike Tjepkes, Neil McCaffery, Mark Widdel and Craig Neessen.

Mrs. Jack Deters and Mrs. John E. Reikena were flower attendants.

Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Neessen passed away early Friday morning, July 29, at the Ravenwood Health Care Center in Waterloo due to complications of a stroke. She reached the age of 88 years, 10 months and 21 days. She had been a resident of the Care Center since March 9, 1982.

She was born in Reinbeck on September 8, 1894, the daughter of Carl and Bertha Johnson and attended the Grundy Center Schools, graduating from the High School with the class of 1913. In July of 1914 she was married to Heiko G. Neessen. Following their marriage they lived on a farm near Conrad. They later moved to a farm east of Wellsburg. In 1943 they retired from the farm and moved into Wellsburg. Her husband passed away on October 16, 1968.

Mrs. Neessen attended the Second Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; an infant daughter; a daughter, Carol, in 1939; a sister, Ada, Mrs. Hobart Bailey; and a brother, Royal Johnson.

Survivors include three daughters and two sons, LaVerne, Mrs. Dale Johnson of Waterloo; Laurence Neessen of Waterloo; Donald Neessen of Waterloo; Helen, Mrs. Neil McCaffery of Cedar Falls; Myrna, Mrs. Marvin Hicks of South Bend, Indiana; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Our heartfelt thanks to each one who expressed their sympathy to us in the passing of our loved one. We would like to thank Rev. Van Hal for his comforting message, to those who provided music, for memorials, flowers and attendants and to the Helping Hands Society who served. All of your kindnesses have been deeply appreciated. The Family of Mrs. Norma Neessen.
