CAPT. E. M. SARGENT DIES
Was a Former Senator of Black Hawk-Grundy District

Grundy Center, Jan. 8.—Capt. E. M. Sargent, one of the best known residents of Grundy county, died here yesterday afternoon at 2:15, of Bright's disease. He had suffered with the ailment for nearly a year.

Capt. Sargent was 63 years old and he leaves a wife and three children. The children are Fred Sargent, of Grundy Center; A. H. Sargent, an attorney, of Cedar Rapids; and Grace, living at home.

He held many offices of public trust and was at one time a member of the Iowa senate, having been elected to fill a vacancy caused by the death of Senator Rea, of the Black Hawk-Grundy district in 1895. He was very prominent in Grandy Army circles and had an excellent civil war record.
