August Christ Stukenberg was born March 5, 1846, in the village of Maiborsen, Province Hannoon, Germany and died June 6, 1914 in his home in Aplington. His death was caused by a stroke of paralysis and hardening of the arteries. Mr. Stukenberg came to America with his parents when but a child of two years settling near Adeline in Ogle county, Ill. At the age of 24 years he came to Iowa, settling in Grundy county, where he resided till he and his companion moved to his present home in 1904.
Mr. Stukenborg was married to Miss Mina Rottmyer Feb. 5, 1870; to this union were born five children, three sons and two daughters—Fred H., of Aplington, William D., of Radcliffe, Minnie R., wife of Rev. J. D. Klooz, of Hubbard, Gus. C., of Aplington and Anna M., wife of Fred Schmertman, jr., of Aplington. The widow and five children survive, together with twelve grand children. One brother, Dennis Stukenberg, resides in Adeline, Ill. The deceased was a prominent and active member of the Evangelical church.
