Rev. Johannes Meester

Memorial services for the Rev. Johannes J. Meester, 47, of Delmar, N.Y., formerly of Parkersburg, will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Reformed Church of Stout; a memorial service also was last Wednesday at Delmar Reformed Church; he died April 4 at St. Peter's Hospice, Albany, N.Y., after a lengthy illness; survivors include his wife, Peggy Ann Nack Meester; two sons, Timothy and Jonathan, both of Delmar; a daughter, Deborah of Delmar; his father, Jacob C. of Parkersburg; two brothers, Calvin and Roger, both of Parkersburg; and a sister, Lois Fisher of Parkersburg; he was a graduate of Central College, Pella, and a 1966 graduate of New Brunswick (N.J.) Theological Seminary; he served as associate pastor of Poughkeepsie (N.Y.) Reformed Church and, in 1970, became pastor of the Reformed Churches of New Salem and Unionville, where he remained until 1987 when he was named pastor emeritus of the two congregations; he was past president of the Classis of Albany of the Reformed Church in America and served as chairman of both the Christian Nurture and Church Supervision Committees of the classis; he served as chairman of the Christian Nurture Unit of the Particular Synod of Albany of the Reformed Church in America; his interest in youth work led to his involvement in developing several national youth gatherings for the Reformed church in America.
