Mrs. McCubbin, Age 88, Dies
Mrs. Jethro (Laura) McCubbin, age 88, R5, Marshalltown, passed away Tuesday evening, December 21, 1982 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital where she had been admitted six days earlier.
Funeral services were held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the Green Mountain Church Of Christ with Rev. Ronald Mooberry, Conrad, and Rev. Robert Ossman, Green Mountain, officiating the service.
Charles Hayes, R5, Marshalltown, sang “Only Jesus Can Satisfy Your Soul,” and “Blessed Assurance.” He was accompanied by Mrs. Kenneth Stover. A choir from Conrad sang several Christmas carols for the prelude and postlude.
Grandsons of Mrs. Gummert served as pallbearers. They were David McCubbin, Michael McCubbin, Duane Gummert, Darrell Gummert, Lonnie Gummert, Jay McCubbin, Jeffrey McCubbin and Glen Dexter.
Burial was in the Green Mountain cemetery. Relatives and friends were invited to return to the church for lunch following the committal service.
Born Laura Yetley May 28, 1894 near Green Mountain, she was the daughter of David and Lizzie Manz Yetley. She received her education in the Green Mountain area.
On October 10, 1917, in Green Mountain, she was married to Jethro McCubbin. They farmed in the Green Mountain area and he died in 1954 after a tractor-car accident. Also preceding her in death were her parents and two sisters, Hattie and Caroline Yetley.
She was a member of the Marshalltown Soroptimist, Historial Society, YWCA Hobbycraft Club and at Green Mountain the WCTU and the Kandoo Club.
Surviving are four children, Dale McCubbin of Conrad, Reba (Mrs. Donald) Gummert of Grundy Center, Max McCubbin of Conrad and Shirley (Mrs. Everett) Dexter, R5, Marshalltown; 14 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and a brother, George Yetley of rural Marshalltown.
Estel-Perrin Funeral Home of Marshalltown was in charge of arrangements.
