Services Held For Bessie Cohen, 92, Longtime Resident

A longtime Conrad resident, Bessie A. Cohen, 92, died December 18 at Oakview Nursing Home, Conrad, where she had resided for the past few years.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 21 at the Johnston Funeral Home in Conrad with the Rev. Timothy Soule officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, Marshalltown.

Special music for the service was provided by pianist Mrs. Al Walling. Flower attendants were Mrs. Faye Smith and Mrs. Dora Stambaugh.

Casket bearers were Jerry Friday, Dale Smith, Jim Jebousek, Kenny Hagen, Richard Lynch and Richard Geise.

Bessie was born September 27, 1890, at Freeport, IL, the daughter of Henry B. and Elena deVries. She came to Conrad from Ashton, IA in about 1920-21 and worked for many years at Thorman’s General Store.

She was married to I. A. (Ike) Cohen on October 31, 1925, at Eldora.

Mrs. Cohen was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Conrad, Royal Neighbors of America, and the St. Elmo’s Chapter No. 398, Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by one son, Marvin A. Cohen, Conrad; one daughter, Evelyn (Mrs. Larry) Beidleman, Aspen, CO; and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1977; and three brothers.
