DETERS, ROSS, ACKERMAN

Nellie Deters, 94, of Eldora, Iowa, formerly of Wellsburg, Iowa, died Thursday, May 22, 2003, at Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center, in Eldora, Iowa, of natural causes.

Nellie was born June 30, 1908, in Monroe, South Dakota, the daughter of Nanke and Berendina (Ross) Ackerman. She was raised in Montana, and Minnesota, and moved to Wellsburg, Iowa, at the age of twelve. Nellie graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1927. On January 13, 1928, Nellie was united in marriage to William Deters at the parsonage of First Christian Reformed Church, rural Wellsburg. They farmed for many years, and after retiring, they moved to Eldora in 1963. William died in 1989. In 1993, Nellie moved to Friendship Manor Apartments in Wellsburg, and lived there until 2000, when she went to live at Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center.

Nellie was a member of United Reformed Church in Wellsburg, and was a member of their Willing Worker's Group. She loved doing crafts of all kinds. Nellie was an excellent seamstress and quilter, who made many special dolls for her family, and also made them all a blanket.

Survivors include three sons Rodney Deters and his wife Inez of Wellsburg, Iowa, Ronald Deters and his wife Diane of Haverhill, Iowa, Wallace Deters of Wellsburg, Iowa, one daughter Mildred Knutson of Eldora, Iowa, fourteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one stepsister Gertrude Hoodjer and her husband John of Wellsburg, Iowa, and one sister-in-law Vera Ackerman of Iowa Falls, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents Nanke and Berendina; her stepparents Wiebe and Nettie Meyer; her husband William; one grandson Jeffrey Deters; three brothers George, Lawrence and Lewis Ackerman; one sister Florence Eckhoff; two stepbrothers Harm and Odie Meyer; and one stepsister Clara DeNeui.
