Rites Held For William Deters

William Deters, 82, of Eldora, and formerly of Wellsburg, passed away Wednesday, August 2, at the Eldora Manor Nursing Home in Eldora.

Funeral services were held at the Second Christian Reformed Church, Wellsburg, on Friday, August 4, at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Glenn R. Dieken officiated.

Mrs. Lee Boomgarden and Richard Schafer sang "Nearer, Still Nearer" and "Jesus Calls Us O'er The Tumult". The accompanist was Mrs. LuRay Neessen, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Grandsons serving as casket bearers were Terry Deters, Mitchell Deters, Kevin Knutson, Kirk Knutson, Larry Akkerman and Kenneth Primus.

Users were Ivan Slifer and Herman Groote. Mrs. John Hoodjer and Mrs. Dena Heikens were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Shiloh Township Cemetery, Wellsburg.

William Deters was born October 31, 1906, in Grundy County, the son of Hemmo and Grietje Van Deest Deters. He completed his education at the Flowing Well School, German Township #8, in rural Grundy county.

On January 13, 1928, he was united in marriage to Nellie Ackerman in Grundy Center. The couple lived in rural Grundy county where they farmed until moving to Eldora in 1963, when William began working for the Farm Service in Eldora.

William was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, three sisters, and one grandson.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie, of Eldora; three sons, Rodney and wife Inez, of Wellsburg, Ronald and wife Cathy, of Haverhill, and Wallace, of Wellsburg; one daughter, Mildred Knutson, of Eldora; two sisters, Gepka Nederhoff, Wellsburg, and Martha Kurtzleben, of Britt; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
