Raymond A. Hippen, 71, of Wellsburg, died Thursday, June 7 at his residence in Wellsburg of cancer.

Funeral services were Monday, June 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Reformed Church in Wellsburg. Pastor Harold Miller officiated. Burial was in the Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg. A memorial fund has been established.

Raymond was born November 13, 1929 in German Township, Grundy County, the son of Jake and Mattie Riebkes Hippen. He attended rural school in German Township and worked as a farmhand. He was united in marriage to Mary Jane Abbas on May 18, 1948 in the East Friesland Presbyterian Church in rural Ackley. Ray and Mary farmed northwest of Wellsburg until 1972.

He was a member of the Ackley Christian Reformed Church and later transferred membership to the Second Christian Reformed Church in Wellsburg. It later became the United Reformed Church. His hobbies were leather craft, and woodworking, items of which were displayed at Camp Sunnyside and made as gifts for his family. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading and computer research.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Ella; and a son-in-law, Tony Woodley.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; daughter, Marilyn and her husband Jerry Adelmund of Parkersburg; a son, Arnold Hippen and his wife Pat of Flandreau, SD; a daughter, Donna Crosser and her husband Harold of Iowa Falls; a brother, Delbert Hippen and his wife Grace of Wellsburg; a sister, Anna Marie and her husband Larry Card of Parkersburg; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of the arrangements.
