APLINGTON - Jennie De Vries, 97, of Aplington, formerly of Ackley, died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Maple Manor Care Center, Aplington. Services were held Tuesday, May 1 at the West Friesland Church, rural Ackley, with burial in the church cemetery. Pastor Randy Crane officiated.
Jennie was born June 29, 1903, near Wellsburg, to John and Johanna Riebkes Kurtzleben Van Loh. She attended German Township No. 8 country school. In March 1921, she moved with her parents to Wellsburg and on Dec. 22, 1925, married Jake De Vries in Kesley. They farmed in Hardin and Butler counties and in 1938 they moved to a farm in Grundy County. After the death of her husband in 1986, she moved to Aplington. She was a member of the West Friesland Presbyterian Church, rural Ackley, and the Ladies Aide, later called WIC. She enjoyed sewing and embroidering until her eyesight failed.

She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Stubbe and her husband, Christie, of Aplington, and Louella Condie and husband, Donald, of El Centro, Calif.; two sons, Louis De Vries and wife, Janet, of Linn Creek, Mo., and Richard De Vries and wife, Linda, of Wiscasset, Maine; a daughter-in-law, Laura De Vries of Ackley; 15 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jake; a son, Arnold; six brothers; and a sister.

Doyen-Abels Funeral Home of Wellsburg, was in charge of arrangements.
