WELLSBURG - Minnie J. Schmidt, 93, of Wellsburg died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley. Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 19, at the Wellsburg Reformed Church in Wellsburg with Pastor Todd Rempke officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in her name.

Minnie was born July 11, 1910, in Grundy County to John and Kate (Harms) Finke. She was raised near Wellsburg where she attended country school. On March 21, 1938, she was united in marriage to George C. Schmidt. The couple farmed southeast of Wellsburg. Minnie moved to Wellsburg in 1971, where she lived for 30 years before moving to the Presbyterian Village in 2002. She was member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church near Wellsburg and later joined the Wellsburg Reformed Church where she taught Sunday school. She enjoyed gardening, baking, playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Tessau and husband Ray of Wellsburg and Janice Koenen of Hampton; two sisters, Edna Meyer of Holland and Carrian Muller of Humboldt; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents; four sisters; three brothers; and a foster brother.

Doyen-Abels Funeral Home of Wellsburg was in charge of arrangements.
