WELLSBURG — Kathryn Luella Freese Murra, 87, of Wellsburg died Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital from complications of diabetes while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral services are Thursday, Jan. 13, at the United Reformed Church in Wellsburg with the Rev. Harold Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Wellsburg Reformed Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 12, from 4 until 8 p.m., with the family present to greet friends from 6 until 8 p.m., at Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg. Visitation will also be Thursday morning at the funeral home from 8 until 11 a.m.

Kathryn was born Aug. 25, 1917, on a farm near Aplington, the daughter of Louie and Wemka (Lauterbach) Freese. She grew up and attended school in Wellsburg. On Jan. 19, 1937, she was united in marriage with George Murra at the Second Christian Reformed Church in Wellsburg. To this union two children were born. Kathryn was a long-time member of the Second Christian Reformed Church (now known as the United Reformed Church of Wellsburg). She enjoyed studying local history and her family heritage. Kathryn was an avid quilter and reader.

Survivors include a daughter, Loretta Jones of Wellsburg; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; infant son Eldon Lee; one son-in-law, Lee Jones; and her brother, Irvine Freese.
