Mr. Richard J. Tompkins, of Mt. Carroll, Ill., died at his home Sunday morning, Nov. 29. Mr. Tompkins has been postmaster at the above named place for about 25 years, he having been appointed by Abraham Lincoln during his first term of administration. Mr. Tompkins term of office would have expired the 15th of this month. A great many of our readers who are from Carroll county will remember Mr. T. He was 77 years old.
