The funeral services of the five children of Mr. and Mrs. Dodson of Eagle City was held last Sunday at Berlin, in the presence of a large and sympathetic audience. This was a peculiar and sad case. These children all died with the diptheria, within the space of 15 days. Probably not one in the congregation ever witnessed just such a case before--the funeral of five in one family at the same time.

The language of Job, found in the 19th chapter, and the 21st verse of the book of Job, was appropriately used as the text of the sermon:
"Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, oh ye my friends, for the hand of God hath touched me."

May the Lord graciously sustain the bereaved ones, granting them the fullness of the blessings of the Gospel.

The following is a list of the names of the children, their age, and the date of their death:
James F. was born July 2nd, 1875, and died Aug. 1st, 1885
Walter L. was born Aug. 15th, 1871, and died Aug. 2nd, 1885
Arthur was born 1883 and died Aug. 10th, 1885.
Annie L. was born March 21st, 1869, and died Aug. 16th, 1885.
Earnest was born in 1879 and died Aug. 15th, 1885.

Thus it will be seen that the youngest was but little over two years old, and the oldest 16, and that the first death was Aug. 1st and the last Aug. 16th. Dark days indeed were these for that family.--Eldora Ledger
