Melvin Ridenour was born in Cedar county, Iowa, April 14th, 1852 and departed this life at his home near Paton, June 16th, 1904, aged 52 years, 2 months, and 2 days. He was married to Elizabeth S. Barclay, November 19th, 1874 and removed to Greene county six years later. He leaves to mourn his loss an aged father, a bereaved widow, one son and six daughters, and a host of friends whom he has won to himself by an upright, industrious and Christian life. The funeral occurred at the Methodist Episcopal church, of which he was a member and trustee, on Sunday morning Rev. Joshua Jester, of Des Moines, a long and close friend of the family, and under whose labors Mr. Ridenour was converted years ago, preached an appropriate and touching funeral sermon, he being assisted by the Rev. Eben A. Thomas, pastor of the Methodist Church and Rev. J. Ehrstine, pastor of the Presbyterian Church.
