THE REPORTER, CHURDAN, IOWA - APRIL 8, 1943
CHARLES CLIPPERTON DIED AT HIS HOME AT BONDURANT

This community was saddened Thursday morning when the news came that Charley Clipperton had passed away about eleven o’clock Wednesday night, at his home near Bondurant, Iowa, following an illness of several years. While he had been failing for a long time, he had been able to be up about the place and walk up town while they were living in Churdan. Mr. Clipperton was born near Churdan fifty-one years ago, and spent his entire life in this community until the first of March this year, when the family moved to a farm near Bondurant. All his life was spent on the farm, with the exception of about one year just before moving to Bondurant when he and Mrs. Clipperton lived in Churdan. Mr. Clipperton was successful tiller of the soil until his health began to fail and for several years he had been unable to do much work. The remains were brought to Churdan Sunday for burial and funeral services were held at the Methodist church. The heartfelt sympathy of a host of friends goes out to the beloved wife and two sons, three brothers and two sisters who mourn his passing to that other world.

Charles Erwin Clipperton was born in Highland Township, Greene County, Iowa, March 4, 1892, and departed this life at his home near Bondurant, Iowa, Wednesday night, March 31st, at the age of 51 years and 27 days. He was a son of John an Alma Clipperton.

The deceased has been a resident of Highland Township all his life with the exception of one month near Bondurant.

He was united in marriage to Edwena Bowers, August 19, 1914, and they located on a farm near Churdan. To them were born three children, Glenn of Churdan, Betty who passed away at the age of two years, and Merle of Bondurant.

When his health began to fail a number of years ago, the farm work was taken over by the two sons, Glenn and Merle.

His passing was peaceful and he knew his family until a short time before he went into his last sleep. He was bedfast about a week. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife and two sons, one grandson, Gene Clipperton, and one step grandson, DeVere Murphy. Two sisters, Lena Clipperton and Bertha Law, three brothers, Ben, Wesley and Roy Clipperton, all of Churdan, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist church in Churdan, Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock, conducted by the pastor Rev. R. C. Buchanan. Two songs, "Old Rugged Cross" and "Beautiful Isle of some Where" were sung by Mrs. J. W. Pollock and Mrs. R. G. Grant, accompanied by Mrs. Yates Allen. Burial was in the Highland Township Cemetery at Churdan.
