THE CHURDAN REPORTER, CHURDAN, IOWA - JUNE 16, 1916
DEATH OF WILLIAM CLIPPERTON

Our friend and brother Mr. William Clipperton has passed away. He was a man that was widely known in this community, and his honesty, virture and integrity commanded the respect of all who knew him.

Mr. Clipperton was born August 22, 1861, near London, Canada. he was the son of William and Jane Clipperton, who immigrated to United States when William was nine years of age. They settled in Highland Township, Greene County, Iowa, where they purchased a section of land. The deceased procured the northeast quarter after he had grown to manhood, where he lived until the time of his death, which occurred, June 7, 1916, at the age of 54 years, nine months and fifteen days. He was united in marriage to Nellie Smith, October 21, 1891. To this union were born five children, four boys and one girl, who are all living except one boy that died in infancy. They are, Mrs., Myrtle Shriver; William; Guy; Ralph H. and Clifford F. Besides his wife and children there are five brothers and four sisters, who mingle their tears with them in deep sorrow and beravement. During his last illness they were all with him except his brother Francis of California. There are a host of friends also who will miss his genial greetings, for he had a smile of good cheer for all with whom he met. At the age of 17 he was converted and joined the Free Methodist church, of which he was a faithful member for many years. Later he united with the M. E. Church at Churdan. He had ideals of righteous living. He was a lover of the bible and its teachings. During his sickness no subject attracted more attention on his part than that of salvation thru Christ. He said many times that he was ready to go to his Heavenly Father. He quoted many verses of scripture, one of them was the one that Rev. Andrew used as his text at the funeral, "In my Father's house are many mansions, etc.." William was taken to Rochester for an operation several weeks ago. The surgeons found his condition very bad, in fact they gave the family no encouragement. After the operation, as soon as he had gained strength enough, he was brought home. A trained nurse accompanied them home and remained constantly at his side until death came. She never tired of administering to his wants and did all she could to held him in the battle against death. He went to sleep and passed away without a struggle. There is no question as to where his soul is today. He has gone to occupy one of the mansions the Father had prepared for him. The Funeral services were held Friday at 2 o'clock p.m. in the M. E. church, Rev. Andrew, the pastor, preached the sermon. Interment was made in our beautiful cemetery. The casket was covered with a profusion of flowers the gift of loved ones and friends.

The family wish to express their thanks to many friends who helped them during the illness and burial of their loved one.
