WALTER DEAN ANDREW

Walter Dean Andrew, son of Charles and Laura Fackler Andrew, was born August 7, 1898, at Churdan, and died September 13, 1948, at Cedar Rapids, at the age of 50 years, 1 month and 6 days. The first 25 years of his life were spent in Greene County.

On October 12, 1910 he was united in marriage to Esther Ritzie. To this union were born three children, twin sons, Darwin and Donald, and a daughter, Doris. For several years he lived in South Dakota. For the past fifteen years he lived in Iowa, and at the time of this death he was employed by the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad.

While a youth he joined the Baptist Church. Later he became a member of the Methodist church in South Dakota.

He serve in the Navy in World War I and in the Army in World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Roy and Edward in infancy, and George in 1946, and an infant son, Darwin.

Surviving are his son, Donald of St. Paul, Minnesota; a daughter, Mrs. Vern Borr of Pollock, South Dakota; two grandchildren, Peggy and Terry Garr of Pollock, South Dakota; one brother, Dale of Waterloo; four sisters, Mrs. Verle Harlow of Lincoln, Nebraska; Edith Andrew of Lincoln Parn, Michigan; Mrs. Clarence Smith of Churdan, and Mrs. Paul Colony of Cedar Rapids.

Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church in Churdan, Friday afternoon, September 17, 1948, conducted by the Pastor, Rev. George C. Foster, Mrs. Wayne Brody, Mrs. Waite Reading, Mrs. George Foster and Mrs. Raleigh Adams sang "Ivory Places" and "No Night There" accompanied by Mrs. Niles Witffoth. Casket Bearers: Alta Flack, Mert Andrew, Alva Flack, Ormas Fackler, Carl Roberts, Floyd Flack. Interment in the Highland Township cemetery at Churdan.
