THE REPORTER, CHURDAN, IOWA - NOVEMBER 4, 1948
LAST RITES FOR CLAYTON T. ANDREW THURSDAY

Clayton Thomas Andrew, son of George and Catherine Andrew was born August 26, 1862, at Farmersburg, Clayton County, Iowa, and passed away at his home in Churdan, October 26, 1948, at the age of 86 years and two months.

When Mr. Andrew was seven years old, his mother passed away. In 1871, he moved to Greene County with his father, two brothers and three sisters.

On February 28, 1883, he was united in marriage to Susan Jane Flack. To this union seven children were born.

He spent most of his life in Greene County, with the exception of a few years in Calhoun and Pocahontas Counties. He later returned to Greene County where he farmed a number of years. In 1913, he moved to Churdan, where he has resided since. Mrs. Andrew passed away January 11, 1914.

On September 17, 1918, he was united in marriage to Miss Mae Vredenburg. To this union two daughters were born, both dying in infancy.

Mr. Andrew was converted and united with the Free Methodist church when a young man. He was a faithful member, always attending the church service, as long as his health permitted. He was Sunday School superintendent for the a number of years.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, one daughter, Florence in 1916; two sons, Wilford, in 1918, and Irvin, who died in infancy; one granddaughter, Zola Catherine McCormick, and a grandson, Victor Darwin Andrew, four sister and two brothers.

Those surviving are his wife, a son, Earl, of Jefferson, three daughters, Mrs. May Howard and Mrs. Mattie McCormick, both of Jefferson, and Mrs. Lura Peacock of Churdan, twelve grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Mr. Andrew was a kind and faithful husband and father, always considering others before himself. So patient through the months of his sickness and suffering, never complaining.

Funeral services for Mr. Andrew were held at the Free Methodist Church at Churdan, Thursday afternoon, October 28, at 2:00 o’clock. Words of comfort were spoken by Rev. Fred Fisher, Pastor of the Free Methodist Church at Clarinda, Iowa, using the Scripture Text, 2nd Timothy 4:7-8 verses which was chosen by the deceased. Rev. and Mrs. Roy C. Nelson sang "We’ll Never Say Goodbye," "Sometime We’ll Understand" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus."

Casket Bearers: Marvin Clopton, Clyde Gardner, Louis Patterson, Rex McCormick, Don McCormick, Barney Howard. Interment in the Highland Township Cemetery at Churdan, Iowa.
