Funeral services were held Friday, April 16, from the Slininger-Rossow Chapel in Jefferson for Darwin L. Flack, 76, longtime Greene county resident.

Robert McKnight of the Church of Christ at Scranton officiated. Helen Wilson was organist. Honorary casket bearers were Ed Denhardt, Robert Smith, Carl Garnett, Paul Walker, Earl Cairns and Harold Flack.

Casket bearers were Jim Walker, Larry Frazier, Louis Swanson, Kenneth Stevens, Kenneth Wright and Glen Garnett. Interment was in Jefferson Cemetery.

Darwin Leroy Flack, son of Alva and Ruth Pemble Flack, was born June 17, 1916, at Iowa City. He grew up on a farm located near Churdan, Farlin and Scranton.

Darwin attended rural school and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1936. He was very athletic in high school and participated in all sports. He played on the Churdan semi-pro baseball team and was a semi-professional boxer. He also helped his father on the family farm northwest of Jefferson.

After Darwin married Ruth Denhardt the couple lived on a farm for a time before moving to California where Darwin worked as a machinist. After Ruth's death in 1963 Darwin returned to Iowa and farmed.

He was a member of the former Baptist Church in Farlin. At the time of this death Darwin was a member of Greene County Farm Bureau.

He moved to Jefferson Manor in 1990 and died there on April 16, 1993. Darwin was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Ruth.

He is survived by a sister, Doris Johnson of Las Vegas, NV; a special friend, Ruby Stevens of Scranton; and several cousins.

Obituary: Darwin Flack, 76, of Jefferson died Tuesday at Jefferson Manor of complications after a stroke. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home, and burial will be in Jefferson Cemetery.

Mr. Flack was born in Iowa City. He farmed in the Jefferson area most of his life and was a member of Greene County Farm Bureau. He moved to the care center three years ago.

A sister, Doris Johnson of Las Vegas, Nev., survives.

Friends may call after 8 a.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.
