THE REPORTER, CHURDAN, IOWA - DECEMBER 11, 1947
MRS. ELLA FLACK GOES TO HER FINAL REST

Mary Luella, daughter of George and Caroline Hatter Andrew, was born March 24, 1864. Her parents were born in England, they were married in 1852 and came to the United States that same year and settled on a farm near Farmersburg in Clayton County, Iowa, where their eight children, four girls and four boys, were born. She was three years old when her mother died and in 1871 her father brought his family to Greene County and settled on a farm near Churdan. Her father passed away suddenly in 1890.

On February 28, 1883, she was united in marriage to Alfred Thomas Flack at Jefferson. They were the parents of eleven children, six sons and five daughters. They lived on a farm in Bristol Township until the spring of 1919, when they moved to Churdan, where she has since made her home.

She was converted and baptized, uniting with the Free Methodist Church when a young girl. Later she joined the Baptist Church at Farlin and transferred her membership to the Churdan Baptist Church in the fall of 1919.

She and her daughter Ruby have made their home together since her husband passed away. She has been in poor health the past five years, but was taken suddenly ill Saturday evening, November 29, at 5:30 and passed away within a few minutes, at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 5 days. She has been lovingly cared for by her family and during her declining years as her health failed she was given devoted and constant care by her youngest daughter Ruby.

She was preceded in death by her husband on February 23, 1923, a son Roy at the age of 2 years, three sisters and three brothers, George and Anna in infancy, Katherina Stream, Abbie Clipperton, William and Charles, two grandsons, a granddaughter and a great granddaughter and great grandson.

She is survived by five sons and five daughters, Lydia Hurdel, Laura Yeager, Ralph, twins Alta and Alva, Floyd, Mary Wright, Dewey, Ruth Wing and Ruby; a brother and sister-in-law Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Andrew; 28 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren, a large number of nieces and nephews and other relatives.

She was a good wife and mother, always concerned about her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In the pioneer days she was a friend of all and ready to give of her time and strength to those in need.

She was a faithful and loyal servant of the Lord Jesus Christ and his Church. She never missed a service when she was able to go. One of the happiest moments of her life was when she was able to go to the new church to worship and during the past summer when she was out side in her wheel chair she wanted to go to the church. Very few days have passed when she did not go to see her brother Clayton, who is 85 and has been in ill health the past eight months, or he came to see her. He was unable to attend the funeral. A memorial by the children and grandchildren will be presented to the church.

Funeral services for Mrs. Flack were held in the Baptist church, Tuesday, December 2nd, at 2 p.m. with the pastor, Rev. George C. Foster in charge, assisted by Rev. Fred C. Rowley of the Methodist church.
