Lillie Mary Bump, daughter of C. F. and Elizabeth Bump was born near Canton, Illinois, March 16, 1867 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Niles Wittforth, near Churdan June 1, 1930, at the age of 63 years, two months and sixteen days. On October 21, 1888, she was married to Mark C. Saunders. To this union were born five children, one dying in infancy. Those surviving are her husband and children, Ernest of Waterloo, Allen Guy of Woodward, Mrs. Nellie Elizabeth Flack and Mrs. Jessie Marie Wittforth, both of Churdan, also eight grandchildren, her brothers and sisters. Mrs. Rose Saunders of Cuba, Illinois, Alton Bump of Canton, Illinois, Mrs. Zylpha Addis and Eman Bump both of Fiatt, Illinois,.

She was converted in March 1899 and entered into the experience of Holiness in 1900 and was taken into the Free Methodist church near Cuba, Illinois in 1902, by the Rev. W. C. Kelley. Brother and sister Saunders served the church as pastor for a number of years, serving the Hettick and Mason City charges in Illinois coming to the Churdan, Iowa, charge in October 1912, serving two years. They traveled a number of other circuits in Iowa. and because of sister Saunders poor health came back to Churdan in August 1928, to be near her daughters. Her last sickness of over two years was borne with remarkable patience.

She was a great lover of the Bible and memorized much of the scripture. She was a good pastor’s wife and was always a great inspiration and blessing. In the home she was an affectionate and loving wife and mother.
