MRS. LEONARD FISCUS

Mrs. Leonard Fiscus died at her home in Jefferson last Wednesday afternoon, after six years of illness. The funeral was held Friday afternoon at the Church of Christ in southeast Jefferson and burial made in the Rippey cemetery. A few days before her death she planned all arrangements for her funeral, selecting her singers, and the songs they were to sing, the text for the sermon and other details. The flo0llowing obituary was prepared and read by Lester Raaz at the funeral.

Mrs. Ella Leonard Fiscus was born in Owen county, Indiana, August 14th, 1867; and peacefully departed this life August 1, 1928, at the age of 59 years, 11 months and 1 day.

She lived in Indiana until the age of twelve years, then moving with her parents to Audubon county, Iowa, locating on a farm near Audubon, Iowa. She was married to Leonard Fiscus March 6th 1888, near Audubon, Iowa, living there on a farm for several years, lived one year at Irwin, Iowa, several years at Dexter, Iowa, moving to Rippey, Iowa, from Dexter, and from Rippey to Jefferson, Iowa, about six years ago, which has been her home since.

To this union were born three children, Hazel, which proceeded her mother in death, January 26, 1928, at the age of 25; another daughter, Verna, at home, who has been her comfort in her sickness , and one son, Clifford, one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Clifford Fiscus.

She obeyed her Lord at the age of 16, at Dutch Bethel, Indiana living in the hope of Eternal Life since, even till death.

During her six years of sickness and suffering it may be said of her. Her patience was that of Job; her confidence was that of David, though I walk through the valley and shadow of death I fear no evil; her Fortitude that of the old Prophet, as for me and my house we will serve the Lord.

She leaves to mourn her loss her faithful husband, Leonard Fiscus, her daughter, Verna, and her son Clifford, all of Jefferson, Iowa, one brother Bert Fiscus of Entwistle, Alta, Canada; one sister of St. Paul, Nebraska and one granddaughter, of Dexter, Iowa, Genevie Mitchell.

Relatives from a distance who were present at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Fiscus, Liscomb, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Long, Glenn and Junior of Conrad, Iowa;, Mr. and Mrs. Lester McKibben, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Hauser, Mr. and Mrs. Elvie Fiscus of Albion, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Childress of Rock Rapids, Iowa; Miss Lottie Arney, Coal City, Indiana; Mrs. and Mrs. John Gardner and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Campbell of Des Moines, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Will Rinehart of Ross, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Miller and Lloyd Miller of Marshalltown, Iowa; Mrs. John Gorman of Gowrie, Iowa; and Mr. and Mrs. Homer Randall of Ogden, Iowa.
