Funeral services were held Monday, April 3, from First Baptist Church in Churdan for Wayne Wesley Brody, 76, longtime Churdan area resident.

The Rev. Henry Hicethier, pastor of the church, and the Rev. David Plooster officiated. Kenneth Morlan was soloist, with Sally White as organist. There was also congregational singing. Honorary casket bearers were Clarence Weaver, Walt Hagen, Mark Bell, Darvin Tasler, Pat Fitzpatrick, Francis Rutherford, Ed Louk and John Taiber.

Casket bearers were Steven Fiscus, Jeffery Fiscus, Michael Fiscus, Kevin Kauffman, Eric Kauffman, D. W. Brody and Jamie Meyer. Interment was in Highland Township Cemetery at Churdan.

Brown Funeral Home in Churdan was in charge of arrangements.

Wayne W. Brody, the son of Byron and Lillie Patrick Brody, was born on his parents' farm near Churdan on September 3, 1912. He died March 31, 1989, at Stewart Memorial Hospital at Lake City following a lengthly illness.

Wayne attended school in Churdan and graduated from Churdan High School in 1931. On April 4, 1936, Wayne Brody was united in marriage to Beulah Flack at the home of the bride's parents. To this union were born four children.

After their marriage, Wayne operated a livestock and grain trucking business in Churdan for seven years and then engaged in farming north of Churdan for six years. The family then moved to a farm near Glidden where they lived until 1954, when they returned to a farm south of Churdan.

In 1965 Wayne and Beulah moved into Churdan, and Wayne worked for Walnut Grove Products as a feed salesman. He later worked for the M & M Company as a feed salesman until his illness in November of 1984, which forced him to retire.

Wayne was a member of First Baptist Church in Churdan.

Survivors include his wife; their four chilldren, Rheta and her husband Dwight Fiscus of Carroll, Patricia and her husband Larry Kauffman of Middlebury, IN, David and his wife Jeanne of Glidden, and Ann and her husband David Meyer of Churdan; 11 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and one sister, Wilma (Mrs. Clare) Hunter of Churdan.

Those who preceded him in death were his parents and one grandson, Mark Kauffman.
