Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 3, from First Baptist Church in Churdan for Nellie Flack, 100, longtime Churdan resident.

The Rev. John Swoyer pastor of the church, officiated. Sally White was organist. Honorary casket bearers were Eric and Kevin Kauffman, Steven Fiscus, and Howard, Bernard and Robert Patterson.

Casket bearers were Michael and Jeff Fiscus, Davis and D. W. Brody, Jamie Meyer and Richard Flack. Interment was in Highland Township Cemetery at Churdan.

A prayer service was held Tuesday evening, April 2, at 7:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Churdan.

Nellie E. Flack, the daughter of Mark and Lillie Bump Saunders, was born October 29, 1895, at Cuba, IL. She died March 31, 1996, at Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City.

Nellie Saunders attended a country school in Illinois, and after moving to Churdan continued her education at Churdan High School.

On November 11, 1914, Nellie Saunders was united in marriage to Alta Flack at the home of the bride's parents. The couple farmed three miles south of Churdan for four years and then moved to the present family farm. Alta Flack passed away in August of 1969, and Nellie moved into Churdan a year later. Nellie lived in her home in Churdan until 1991, when she became a resident of the Greene County Long Term Care Center in Jefferson, and in 1994 a resident of Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City.

Nellie Flack was a member of First Baptist Church in Churdan and a member of the Chruch's Baptist Aid and Mission Circle. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include her two daughters, Beulah Brody of Churdan and Berneice Patterson of Missoula, MT; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a sister Jessie Juergensen of Bayard Care Center in Bayard; and daugher-in-law June Flack of Churdan.

Those who preceded her in death were her parents; husband; son Byron in 1993; grandson Roland Flack; great-grandson Mark Kauffman; two brothers, Ernest and Guy Saunders; and two sons-in-law, George Patterson and Wayne Brody.
