HARRY KING DIES OF HEART ATTACK

Former Winterset Business Man Fatally Stricken at Jefferson

Harry C. King, a resident of Winterset most of his life, and a widely-known hardware merchant here for many years, died last Saturday at his home in Jefferson, following a heart attack. He was 55 years of age.

Mr. King was born in Winterset Jan. 27, 1893, the son of Wallace and Jessie King. He attended the Winterset schools and as a young man served through the first World war as a corporal in Winterset's Comapny A, 168th Infantry regiment of the 42nd or Rainbow division. He served overseas in the trenches of France for 18 months.

He was married Aug. 21, 1920 to Zola M. Fredrickson of Winterset. They were the parents of two daughters, both of whom survive.

Mr. King operated the hardware store, now known as the Mills Hardware in Winterset, for 16 years. His entire life was spent in Winterset until 1939 when he sold his store here and moved to Colorado. In 1940 he returned to Iowa, and re-entered the hardware business, this time at Jefferson. Because of ill health he left the hardware business in January, 1946, and lately had been engaged in the furniture business in Jefferson.

He was a charter member of Green-Rogers post of the American Legion here, and had served as post adjutant both here and at Jefferson. He was a member of the Methodist church, and had been a Rotarian for 15 years.

Survivors include his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Robert Christie of Des Moines, and Mrs. Meredith Shriver of Jefferson, his aged mother, Mrs. Jessie King of Winterset; two brothers, Ray King of Winterset, and Roy King of Glendale, Calif.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Slinger Funeral chapel at Jefferson, with military honors. The Rev. Arthur V. Long, pastor of the Jefferson Methodist church officiated. Burial was made in the Jefferson cemetery.
