Maxine Thelda (Anderson) Peterson was born June 4, 1921 in Huron, South Dakota and died November 27, 1991 in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. She is buried in the Dawson Twp. Cemetery, Greene County, Iowa. She was married to Virgil V. Peterson.

Peterson
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 30, from the Slininger-Rossow Chapel in Jefferson for Maxine Peterson, 70, of rural Paton.
The Rev. Ray Smith, pastor of Central Christian Church of Jefferson, officiated. Larry Dowd was soloist, with Joyce Kinsman as organist.
Casket bearers were Daniel, Thomas, Bret, Brent, Kevin and Scott Peterson and Paul & Steve Ogren. Interment was in Dawson Township Cemetery, Green county.

Maxine Peterson was born June 4, 1921 at Huron, South Dakota, the daughter of Algy and Goldie McClurg Anderson. She moved to the Jefferson community with her family when she was a young child. Maxine grew to womanhood in the Jefferson, Cooper and Stanhope areas and attended school in Jefferson. After her schooling Maxine did domestic work for a farm family near Cooper.

On October 19, 1935, Maxine was united in marriage with Virgil Peterson in Scranton. They were the parents of 3 sons, Jack, Larry and Dick. Maxine & Virgil farmed near Squirrel Hollow for one year, then have farmed north of Jefferson since.

Maxine was a member of the Central Christian Church in Jefferson.

She died November 27, 1991, in Des Moines. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Rocky; one sister, Betty Mae who died in infancy; and a half-brother, James Jordan.

She is survived by her husband Virgil; 3 sons, Jack & Dick, both of Jefferson and Larry of Madrid; 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Beverly Ogren of Jefferson, Darlene Knutson of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Nadine (Mrs. Rudi) Christensen of Iowa City, Iowa; and 2 brothers, Royal Anderson of Jefferson and Gene Anderson of Kingman, Arizona.

Obituary: Maxine Peterson, 70, of Paton died of cancer Wednesday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson, with burial at the Dawson Township Cemetery in Greene County.

Mrs. Peterson was born in Huron, S.D., and lived in Green County most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Central Christian Church in Jefferson.

Survivors include her husband, Virgil; 3 sons, Jack and Dick, both of Jefferson, and Larry of Madrid; 3 sisters, Beverly Ogren of Jefferson, Nadine Christensen of Iowa City and Darlene Keutson of Scottsdale, Ariz.; 2 brothers, Royal Anderson of Jefferson and Eugene Anderson of Kingman, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present.
