Mrs. Mary C. Phillips

Mary C. O'Donnell was born in Cedar township, Greene County Iowa July 22, 1877, of John O'Donnell and Mary Fay O'Donnell, a pioneer family of this community. She was raised in, and attended the schools of Cedar township until she arrived at the age of fourteen years, when upon the death of her mother, she came to Jefferson, and continued to live with Mrs. A. Mugan until her marriage to Patrick Montgomery, April 20, 1897, and to this union seven children, one of which is now deceased where born. April 8, 1917; she was married to Joseph F. Phillips, and to this union was born a son on February 1, 1918.

Her death occured at 7 o'clock p.m. February 8, 1918 at her home in Northeast Jefferson and funeral services were held from the residence on Sunday, February 10 with enternment in the Catholic Cemetery ; in Cedar Twp, Green County.

She is survived by her children, Cecilla Montgomery aged 19, Rachel Montgomery age 17, Margaret Montgomery 15, George Montgomery 12, Ruth Montgomery 9, Stephen Montgomery 6, and Joseph Phillips born February 1, 1918; her husband Joseph F. Phillips; her sister Mrs. Annie Leute of Salt Lake, Utah; her brother John O'Donnell of Fort Dodge; and her half sister Mrs. Frank Grimes of Jolley, and numerous more distant relatives.

She was well and favorably known, recognized as a woman of the highest type of Christian character, a good mother and esteemed as the very best of neighbors. The family and relatives have the sincere sympathy of the community as a whole.
