Death Claims Retired Farmer After Long Illness
Funeral services for Henry Hanen, retired farmer of this community, were held at Slininger's Monday, July 21, 1930 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. L.R. Gans in charge. Burial was in the Franklin township cemetery.
Henry Hanen was born April 12, 1858 in Kankakee County, Illinois and passed away at his home in Jefferson July 19, 1930 at the age of seventy-two years, three months and seven days. He had been in ill health for several years and finally became very ill with dropsy, passing away Saturday morning about six o'clock.
Mr. Hanen came to Wayne County, Iowa in 1880 and later was united in marriage to Rachael Sharr. The couple made their home in Wayne County eleven years and then came to Greene County, living on a farm near Scranton. They moved to Jefferson eighteen years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hanen became the parents of two sons and two daughters, Arlow of near Cooper, Arch of Gilman and Mary Booth and Stella Coop of Jefferson. He is survived by his widow, his four children, one sister, Mrs. Alice O'Connell of Jamaica, seventeen grand children and two great grand-children besides other relatives and friends.
