JOHN M. PEELER OBITUARY

John Monroe Peeler, son of James and Mary H. Isom Peeler, was born near Bartlett, Iowa, July 14, 1880 and passed away at the Chester Peeler home, May 11, 1950, at the age of 69 years, 7 months and 27 days. He had been in poor health for several months. He was the oldest in a family of eight children, one sister, Myrtle, and two brothers, Carl and Clifton having preceded him in death. His mother passed away Dec. 26, 1921 and his father on October 5, 1931.

Mr. Peeler spent his entire life in Fremont county. He live in Pleasant Valley and West Star communities and since September 1949 had been a resident of Hamburg. For three years he lived in Thurman with his uncle, Wiiliam Peeler, who died August 10, 1945.

Handicapped by a physical affliction, John was never able to be active. He assisted his father with farming operations and operated a home shoe repair shop while he lived in Thurman. He engaged in market gardening, but of late years his health failed him gradually so that he was unable too carry on.

In his early life Mr. Peeler became a member of the Church of Christ and held his membership in a rural church at Pleasant Valley. After that church disbanded he transferred his membership to the Church of Christ in Bartlett.

He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Nora Harless of Thurman; three brothers, Chester of Hamburg, Oscar of Payne, and Clarence of Farragut; three nephews, James H. and Max Peeler of Payne and Donald of Hamburg; two nieces, Mrs. Robert Moyer of Payne and Wava Peeler of Hamburg; a number of other near relatives and a host of friends. He was a kind hearted man and will be missed by his relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at Johnson Funeral Home, Sunday, May 14, at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Earl Melton. Interment was in the Thurman cemetery.
