FLORENCE H. SIMONS OBITUARY

Florence H. Crosby, the daughter of George and Martha Crosby, was born in Camden, S.C., January 23, 1870 and passed away in Iowa City, Iowa, May 8, 1950, having reached the age of 80 years, 4 months and 15 days.

When she was in her teens, the family came to Dows, Iowa, and she attended--the Cedar Valley Seminary at Osage, Iowa. On May 1, 1890 she was united in marriage to Arthur Ansel Simons and to this union were born seven children, two of whom died in infancy. Her husband passed away in 1929. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Lea Propp of Auburn, Neb., Ruth Simons of Chambersburg, Penn., Marjorie Simons of Iowa City; two sons, Harold of Chicago and Joe of Athens, Georgia; five grandchildren, Mrs. Florence Davis, Elmwood, Neb.; Elmer Propp, Omaha; Carroll Propp, Elk Creek, Neb.; and Ted and Janet of Athens, Ga. Four great-granddaughters, Janet and Donna Propp, Omaha; Crustal Davis, Elmwood, and Diana Propp, Elk Creek; one brother, Joseph Crosby of Saint Petersburg, Florida, and a host of friends.

Mrs. Simons united with the Hamburg Baptist church shortly after her marriage and was a faithful and active member. She transferred her membership to Iowa City after taking up her residence there a few years ago. She was a past matron of the Sunshine Chapter of the Eastern Star.

Funeral services were held in Iowa City Wednesday evening and the Hamburg Baptist church Thursday, May 11 at 2:30 p.m., conducted by Dr. A.W. Tandy and the Rev. C.E. Kingsley. Burial was made in the Hamburg cemetery.
