In the passing of Mrs. J.E. McCluskey the county mourns the loss of another of those valiant early-day souls, a woman who for quite three score years had given unsparingly to the betterment of the community in which she had chosen to make her home.

Roberta Mae, adopted daughter of Dr. R.R. and Mary Hanely, was born at Chicago February 22, 1867. She passed away at her home in Sidney Friday, June 12, at the age of 64 years, 3 months and 20 days. In early childhood she came to Fremeont county and her entire life was spent in this community. Her foster father was one of the pioneers of this region, whose deeds and works will ever be kindly remembered.
Her education was received in the schools of Sidney and Tabor. On December 10, 1889 she was united in marriage to Joseph Edward McCluskey and to this union five children were born, three of whom survive their mother, two daughters having died in infancy. In 1881 she became a member of the Baptist church, and in her quiet unobtrusive way has lived a life consistent with her belief.

She is survived by her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Flossie Rhoades, of Tabor; two sons, Fred W. and Wilbur C. of Sidney; three grandchildren; also two sisters, Mrs. Lillie H. Bates and Mrs. Julia Flinn, of Long Beach, California; many lesser relatives and a host of tried and true friends.

Funeral services were held from the Baptist church in Sidney at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. C.V. Phillips, who was assisted by the Methodist minister, Rev. C.W. Howard. Interment in the local cemetery.

Relatives and friends who came from a distance to attend the last rites were Mr. and Mrs. Matt McCluskey, Mr. and Mrs. Will Rowe, Glenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Stilley, Silver City; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Clark, Mrs. Minnie Hanley, Shenandoah; Mr. and Mrs. R.L. Estes, Council Bluffs; Mrs. Cecil Ethridge, J.D. Rhoades, Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Tyler, Tabor.
