Daniel Beam was born in Ashland county, Ohio, June 7, 1835, died 10 Aug, 1905. He was married to Lucy Ann Gardner April 25, 1858 and to his union were born 13 children, two dying in infancy. Seven sons and four daughters, wife, 3 brothers and 2 sisters survive him.

Mr. Beam had been in Riverton 25 years and active in our business life all these years. He followed the harness business for several years and finally followed buying and shipping stock, principally hogs. He was known for and wide as an honest buyer and hence had a fine business established in this line, and was ever ready to buy your goods and pay the highest market price, until his health began to fail about six months ago.

While he, like the rest of us, had his faults, yet he was an active business man, watching and protecting the welfare of his customers as well as just of his own.

He bore up well under his continued failing health, hoping that his health would be restored, but, the Sickle of Time was fast encroaching upon the aged man's life. His children were present when the end came and attended the last rites of the old citizen.
The services were held at his house in the presence of one of the largest gatherings in the history of Riverton.

Rev. Matheny, pastor of the M.C. church spoke some healing words to the family. After these services, the body was taken to the Utterback cemetery where it was placed near his kindred who had gone before. Thus Riverton has lost another landmark, his wife, a faithful husband and the children, an affectionate father. The entire community extends their sympathy.
