At the death of his parents, when but 10 years of age, he with several brothers and sisters left Ohio and took up their abode in Howard Co., Iowa in 1856, where he was united in marriage with Miss Violetta Gardner. To this union was born one son, U.S. Beam now of Riverton. His wife departed from this life in 1857.

With his son he moved to Fremont Co., in 1868 and was united in marriage to Serena Mortimore of Fremont Co., that year. To this union eleven children were born as follows: Mrs. Mary Strait of Crawford, Nebraska, Mrs. Stella Huffman, Lyman, Colorado; Helen Beam of Pacific Junction; Mrs. A. O. Barker, Mrs. Roy Barker of Winston, Missouri; Mrs. Roy Barker of Riverton, and Wilber, Irvin and Fred of Riverton. Elmer and Eliza, twins died in infancy. His second wife passed from this life July 10, 1890. He is survived by ten children, thirty six grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Two of the grandsons are doing their bit for the country he so much loved. Sidney Beam is somewhere in France and Leslie Beam is at Camp Dodge.

Mr. Beam united with the Baptist church in 1872 and although he was unable to attend it's services on account of affliction in his family, he has ever been true to his master and was a good father, neighbor and friend.

Funeral services were conducted at the Mount Zion church Saturday May 4, at 2 o'clock by E.H. Longman in the presence of a large congregation of relatives and friends. Mrs. L.D. Morgan sang three very appropriate selections with Mrs. E.H. Longman at the piano. The remains were laid to rest in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
