Johanna Lemke, 83, Hampton, died Monday, April 26, 1999 at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Morgan United Methodist Church in rural Dows with Pastor David Gobeli officiating. Burial will be in the Morgan Township Cemetery in Franklin County.
Johanna Gerzema Lemke, daughter of Ebbel and Johanna Ennen Gerzema, was born Nov. 7, 1915. She attended country school near her home and worked as hired help in neighboring homes until her marriage. On Nov. 25, 1937 she was united in marriage to LaVern F. Lemke in Des Moines. After their marriage, they raised their family and farmed near Dows. They were members of Morgan United Methodist Church where she was active member of the Morgan United Methodist Women's Society.
In 1976, they retired to an acreage near Coulter, and in 1987, they moved to their present home in Hampton.
Survivors are her husband, LaVern of Hampton, one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Avon Lemke of Dows, four daughters and sons-in-law, Darlen and Darold Bucholz, St. Augustine, IL., Judy Gorder of Dows, Linda and John Kidney of Webster City and Nancy and Tom Kornfeld of Greenville, SC.; grandchildren, great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mattee Gree, Grace Poley and Lena Gerzema, all of Ackley, brothers Harvy and Ebbel Gerzema of Ackley and George Gerzema of Iowa Falls; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Matt, Claus, John and Fred, and one sister, Hattie Heins, and one grandson, Mark Bucholz.
