DeAlta McKee, 85, of Chapin, passed away July 11, 2017, at her home in Chapin. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 11, 2017, at Zion St. John Lutheran Church, Sheffield with Pastor G Kim Wills and Pastor Sandy Gobeli presiding. Interment will be at Wayside Cemetery, Chapin. Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 10, at Zion St. John Lutheran Church. Retz Funeral Home, Sheffield has been entrusted with arrangements.

DeAlta Roberta Rasmussen was born September 13, 1931, at home in Wisner Township, Franklin County to Nels and Ellen (Pedersen) Rasmussen. She was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church, rural Coulter and attended school in Alexander. During high school her family moved to Hansell where she graduated with the class of 1949.

On November 11, 1950, DeAlta was united in marriage with Marvin Edward McKee at St. John Lutheran Church in Coulter. They moved to a farm near Hansell then to the Sheffield Brick and Tile farm. In 1973 they moved to Chapin where there is a big void without her.

DeAlta was devoted to her family and raised her children along with starting a store in her home, “DeAlta’s Crafty Corner.” She was known for making dolls and Teddy Bears and Santas. She is remembered for her skills in converting old fur coats and wedding dresses into her creations. She was a long-time member of Zion St. John Lutheran Church in Sheffield and with her family often attended West Fork and Sheffield’s First United Methodist Churches.

DeAlta’s family includes her 8 children: Janelle (Al) Fink, Hampton; DelRay (Janet) McKee, Sheffield; Jeri (Cliff) Bonjour, Chapin; Dylan (Kristi) McKee, Sheffield; John (Jane) McKee, Sheffield; Dawn (Pat) Hegtvedt, Sheffield; Joel (Robin) McKee, Hampton; Donnie (Kristin) McKee, Webster City; 27 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren with 1 on the way; 3 great great grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law: Irene Annonson; Loraine (Dean) Schrock; Eileen McKee and special friend Ronnie Schultz.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband in 2011; 3 sisters, 1 brother in infancy and one great grandson.
