Last Rites Held For Chris P. Nielsen
Aged Hampton Man Passed Away Last Sunday

Funeral services for Chris P. Nielsen, of Hampton, who passed away Sunday night at the Franklin General hospital, in Hampton, were held Wednesday afternoon at St. John's Lutheran Church, southwest of Coulter. Rev. Sedoris N. McCartney officiated at the last rites and burial was made in the church cemetery. The Green & Sietsema Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Paul Christian Nielsen was born July 4, 1878, in Kisum-Overjaard, near Skive, Jylland, Denmark, and passed away at Franklin General hospital, in Hampton, on April 13, 1969, after a short illness, at the age of 90 years, nine months and nine days.

He was the son of Niels and Jensigne Jensen Nielsen. His mother died when he was seven years of age. At the age of nine he was employed as a herdsman.

Early schooling was in the Danish public schools; later he attended night school and trade school in Denmark where he became an apprentice cabinet maker and carpenter after five years of training. He served in the Danish Army. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

He was united in marriage to Anna Jensen on November 15, 1903, in Hasler, Denmark, and for the first three years of married life lived in Copenhagen, Denmark, and had created all his household furniture.

He immigrated to the United States in 1905, location Franklin County. After being employed on the large Mott farms near Hampton a short time, he became self-employed in farming.

On September 21, 1914 he became a naturalized American citizen.

In 1929 he purchased from Henry Skov, the historical acreage known as the Dr. Harriman Estate and has reside there until his death.

He operated the White Side Dairy for 25 years in Hampton, becoming semi-retired from his business at the age of 69, but operated his acreage until his death.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Hamilton township.

He was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers, Herman, Niels and Jens, and four sisters, Anna, Petrea, Dorothea and Motta
He leaves to mourn two daughters, Miss Petrea Nielsen and Miss Nielsine Nielsen, of Hampton.
