Memorial services for Dr. Lewis Vidal, 79, Hampton, were held Monday, Dec. 31, at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Hampton. The Revd.'s. Tom Hungerford and Milton Eklund officiated.

Dr. Vidal died Friday, Dec. 28, 1990, following cancer surgery at St. Joeseph Mercy Hospital, Mason City.

He was born March 29, 1911, in Gunnison, Colo., to Robert and Jessie Vidal. Upon graduation from Rifle, Colo. High School he attended Colorado State University at Fort Collins, Colo., graduating in 1942 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.

Dr. Vidal practiced in Lake Park, Iowa, before purchasing Dr. Lowell Osborn's practice in Hampton in August 1942. He continued to work and live in Hampton until his death.

On June 22, 1942, he married Dagmar Lund at Luther Memorial Church in Des Moines.

He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and a lifetime member of the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association. He was a charter member of the Hampton Kiwanis Club and recipient of the clubs outstanding service award in 1960. He was a member of St . John's Lutheran Church where he served on the church council.

Dr. Vidal was an avid golfer and member of the Hampton Country Club where he served on the board of governors. In 1961 and 1963 he captured the club championships. Besides being committed to helping children and young adults with golf, Dr. Vidal collected bicycles for needy youngsters and in the last year of his life was a remedial reading tutor at Park and Northside schools in Hampton.

Survivors include his wife, Dagmar, Hampton; four children; Katherine, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Robert, Hampton; Dr. Peter Vidal, Garner, and Leonard, Cherry Hill, N.J.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two step grand-children; and three sisters, Bernice Shaun, Rifle, Colo. Josephine McKenna, Grand Junction, Colo.,; and Dolly Burleigh, Fruita, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton was in charge of arrangements.
