Hans Egede passed away Tuesday, Aug, 7, at the Hampton Nursing Home after an extended illness. Funeral services were held at St. John's Lutheran Church Friday, Aug. 10, with the Rev. David Larson officiating. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery. The Green & Sietsema Funeral Home was in charge.

Hans Egede was born May 21, in Hove Sjolland, Denmark, son of Mr. And Mrs. Rasmus Pedersen. He was education in the village school and grew to manhood in his home community pursuing agricultural interests in various parts of the land.

He attended the winter session of Vejstrup, Fyn Folk High School, Stevens College of Agriculture and Ollerup School of Gymnastics under the leadership of Niels Bukh.

In March 1921 he immigrated to USA with the Fred Lund family who were returning to Hampton from a visit in Denmark and thiers remained an open U.S. home for him through the years.

During the winter of 1921-1922, Hans Egede attended Grand View College in Des Moines where made a study of the English language and the history of the land. He also took special courses in gymnastics.

During his early years, he worked on various farms and took an active part in the life of the community. He taught gymnastics to youth groups of St. John's Lutheran church and from the area surrounding it. Hans Egede spent a year in industrial work in Pontiac, Mich. And in dairying at Mt. Clemmens, Mich.

June 1, 1928 he was married to Ida Miller and together they made their home on a farm in Hamilton Township. To this marriage were born Solvejg (Mrs. Robert Hedlund) of Phoenix, Ariz. And Halvor of Hampton.

In due time, Hans Egede became a citizen of the USA, a right he treasured. Together with his family he journeyed numerous times to his homeland, Denmark, which was one of the highlights of his life.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Hamilton Township.

Hans Egede was the eldest son in a family of 11 sisters and brothers. One brother, John, was for ten years a resident of this country. A sister, Petra, has made several visits here.

Surviving are his wife; daughter, Mrs. Robert Hedlund; son, Halvor; four grandchildren; two brothers and one sister of Denmark.
