Des Moines (AP) - Six persons were killed and three others were seriously injured last night in the collision of a Burlington freight train and a car on Highway 60 southeast of here. Five ambulances were dispatched to the scene and took all the victims to the Broadlawns general hospital.

Hospital attendants listed the dead as:
Bob Miller, 3 years old, of Bradford, Ia.
Harry Bullard, 34, Dows, Ia.
Grace Bullard, 30, of Dows
Bob Bullard, 4, son of Grace and Harry
Elaine Bullard, 9, and Marilyn Bullard, 12, also children of the elder Bullards.

Hospital attendants listed the injured as Bud Miller, 28, his wife, Bea, 24, and their daughter, Joanne, 4, all of Bradford, Ia.

The car, highway patrolmen said, was knocked down a 25 foot bank, landing on its top. The train was proceeding toward Des Moines, and Burlington officials said it was pulling 18 to 20 cars of coal. E.S. McIntosh, Knoxville, Ia., the engineer, told highway patrolmen the car "was going pretty fast. It tried to make it across the crossing but just didn't get across in time." Highway patrolmen said all nine persons were riding in the car.

Three of the dead were killed outright and three others died while waiting for ambulances. The last to die was one of the children, who passed away in the arms of a woman passerby who stopped at the scene.

The car was registered in the name of Harry Bullard. It was going south on highway 60.
