“Will J. TEBAY IS CALLED TO REST
Hampton Merchant For Many Years Passes Away After Long Time Illness

William James Tebay, son of James A. and Louise Hartsburg Tebay, was born June 11, 1871, at Vermillion, South Dakota, and passed away at Hampton, on December 24, 1937, at the age of sixty-six years, six months and thirteen days.

When a lad of six years, the decedent moved with his parents from South Dakota to a farm in Ingham township, Franklin county, Iowa, and a few years later moved to a farm in Mott township, northeast of Hampton. Here he spent his boyhood and received his early training in the rural schools.

As a young man, he entered in the United States government postal service as a railway mail clerk on the M. & St. L. railroad, then the Iowa Central. A few years later he accepted a position as a clerk in the postoffice at Hampton and in 1897 he went to Iowa Falls to take a similar position in the Iowa Falls postoffice. Here he met Bryd Belle McDowell, with whom he was united in marriage, September 9, 1899 in Iowa falls. They moved to Denver, Colorado, returning to Iowa Falls a year later, when Mr. Tebay accepted a position in the Welden Brothers store. Here he remained for many years and gained a fine knowledge of the retail merchandising business.

To this union were born two daughters, Mrs. James H. Boehmler [Eloise Tebay], of Hampton and Mrs. T. B. Purcell [Dorothy Tebay], of Iowa Falls.

The family moved to Hampton in 1912 when Mr. Tebay purchased the Adolph Meyer store. He had been engaged in the grocery business since that time.

Mrs. Tebay preceded her husband in death in 1914. He was married a second time, October 10, 1922, at Iowa Falls, to Miss Myrtle Bastian, and she with his two daughters, survive him. He is also survived by three brothers, Adelbert Tebay, of Faith, South Dakota; John L. Tebay and Glenn A. Tebay, both of Alpena, South Dakota, and by three sisters, Mrs. D. R. Roemer, of Des Moines; Mrs. Hubert C. Menisch, of Duluth, Minnesota, and Mrs. Ida Knight of Spencer, Iowa.

Mr. Tebay was for many years a member of all the divisions of the Masonic orders, and Eastern Star at Hampton, and also St. Elmo Commandary at Iowa Falls, and Za-Ga-Zig Shrine at Des Moines. He had been an active worker in these lodges and had gone through the chairs in most of them. He was a past commander of St. Elmo Commandary, and was its treasurer at the time of his demise.

Funeral services were held last Monday afternoon at the Fox Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. H. Lee Jacobs, pastor of the Congregational church. Members of the Masonic lodge attended in a body and had a part in the services and the Knights Templar escort accompanied the remains to Iowa Falls, where burial was made in the Union cemetery.”
