MRS. E.P.GUTZ DIED SUNDAY MORNING
October 12, 1969
Mrs. E.P. Gutz, 69, of Hampton, Iowa former Pomeroy resident, passed away early Sunday morning at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City, following surgery.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 1:30 in Trinity Lutheran Church at Hampton, of which she was a member. Burial was in the Hampton Cemetery. The Rev. E.H. Widmann officiated. Three nephews were among the pallbearers: Donald Baedke and Walter Meyer of Fort Dodge, and Bob Baur of Van Meter.
Elsie Gutz, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Adolph H. Baedke of Pomeroy, was born on December 21, 1899 at Pomeroy. She attended school there and graduated from Pomeroy High School. She then attended the School of Nursing at the Hampton Hospital from which she graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1921.
On March 12, 1926, she was married to Eppler Gutz. They made their home in Pomeroy for a time where Mr. Gutz was associated with the Pomeroy State Bank. They later moved to Marshall, MN and then to Hampton in 1935, where they have made their home.
Elsie is survived by her husband; three daughters, Mrs. Janet Way of Wayne, PA, Mrs. Lois Coon of Estherville and Mrs. Lorraine Ragan of Phoenix, Arizona; and one son, John E. Gutz of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Meyer and Mrs. Minnie Smutz of Davenport and Mrs. Ida Bowser of Phoenix, AZ; one brother, Herman Baedke of Granada, MN; and fourteen grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.
All of the children visited her during her hospitalization. A daughter, Janet Way and family, returned in August from a two year stay in Australia where Dr. Way was on a teaching assignment. The family stopped in Hampton for a visit with her parents before going to their new home in Pennsylvania.
Attending the rites from Pomeroy were Mrs. Nellie Baedke, Mrs. Martha Roegge, Mrs. Elmer Christiansen, Mr. & Mrs. L.G. Schmidt, Mrs. Lula Holtorf, Mrs. John F. Schultz, Clara Ries, Mrs. Emma Gutz and Mrs. Adeline Essing.
