E.P. GUTZ, WELL-KNOWN LOCAL MAN SUCCUMBS
October 17, 1973
E. P. Gutz, well-known Hampton businessman and real estate broker, passed away Wednesday afternoon at the Franklin General Hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Hampton, with the Rev. E.H. Widmann officiating at the last rites. Burial was in the Hampton Cemetery. The Green & Sietsema Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Eppler Paul Gutz was born January 4, 1902 in Pomeroy, Iowa, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John F. Gutz. He was married to Elsie E. Baedke March 12, 1926 of Pomeroy. In 1935 they moved to Hampton. Mrs. Gutz passed away October 12. 1969.
On February 25, 1971, he married Ruth Schulz at Galena, IL.
Mr. Gutz is survived by his wife; one son, John E. Gutz of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Mrs.W.E. (Lois) Coon of Estherville, Mrs. John Way (Janet) of Wayne, PA, and Mrs. Keith W. Ragan (Lorraine) of Phoenix; two sisters, Mrs. R.E. Baur (Lorraine) of Van Meter and Mrs. Audra Gibbs (Sally) of Greenfield; and 16 grandchildren. Besides his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and had been on the church building committee; a past president of the Hampton School Board on which he served for 12 years; a member of the Lutheran Hospital Board for 13 years and past president of it; and a member and past president of the Hampton Rotary Club.
