Ben Jones answers last call

Long time resident of Hampton passes away at his home Friday night. Funeral held Sunday afternoon.

Benjamin F.Jones one of the early residents of Hampton died at his home, corner of walnut and Seventh streets at midnight Friday July 25th. He had been failing in health for several months and his last sickness was due to ailments and complications that come with old age. Funeral services conducted by Rev. DeWitt Clinton of Iowa Falls were held at the home Sunday afternoon at three o'clock. Internment was made at the Hampton cemetery.

Benjamin F. Jones, son of Levi and Jane Jones, well known Pioneer settlers of Franklin county was native of Delaware county Indiana. He was born January 28, 1847, and in the fall of 1854 came with his parents to Iowa. The family located first at Independence but in the spring of 1855 moved to this county settling on a farm in reeve township where the deceased grew t o manhood estate. He was joined in marriage to Miss Mary E. Steed at Waterloo Iowa June 22, 1870 and since than had lived almost continuously in Hampton.

Mr. Jones is survived by his widow and two daughters and one son. The children are Miss Rennie Jones, Truman c. Jones and Mrs. Maude E. Elphic all of Hampton.

The deceased is also survived by three grand children Ralph Donald and Robert Elphic and two sisters Mrs. Elizabeth Wilton of Princetown, Idaho and Mrs. Joan Shroyer of Hampton and two brothers Thomas Jones of Bradford and M.B. Jones of Hampton.

For a period of twenty years Mr Jones was a trusted employee of the late J.H. Gray of Des Moines who was engaged in the lumber and coal business in Hampton. Of late years or until his health failed him he worked at different vocations. He was a man possessed of a most gental nature and his friends were numbered by his acquaintances.
