At two o'clock this afternoon at the Baptist church occurred the funeral services of Roy W. Jones who died Monday, November 21, at his home three miles west of Chapin, as the result of his injuries received on Saturday November 12.
On that day Mr Jones had just finished shoveling a load of corn into a crib and while picking up some stray corn from the ground he was kicked in the abdomen by a colt that was running loose about the yard. While the animal was only in a playful mood it inflicted a fearful wound and one that caused the man's death after nine days of intense suffering.
Roy Webster Jones was born in Franklin county Iowa July 3, 1874 and died at the age of 39 years 4 months and 18 days. He lived in Franklin county all his life except for seven years 1888-1895 when his parents were residents of Nebraska.
Roy was converted during the winter of 1895 during a meeting held at the Baptist church and was baptized and joined that organization. He was married to Mae Philpott in September of 1903. Two children were born to them, Earl and Velma.
