Death of Mrs. A. J. Gray

Mary Burton Gray, widow of A.J. Gray, died at her home in Des Moines, Iowa, August 31, 1906. Her remains were taken to Manchester, Vermont, and laid to rest beside her husband who preceeded her two and a half years. She was born in Chester, Vt., February 12th, 1829, and when four years of age moved with her parents to Peru, Vt., where she resided until she married in 1845, and then moved to Manchester, Vt. In 1884 with her husband she came to Hampton and this city was her home until the year 1900 when the family moved to Des Moines. Although advised months ago of Mrs. Gray's failing health, the news of her death came as a severe shock to her many friends here. She was in every sense of the word a splendid christian woman. Blessed with a cheerful disposition, her presence brough sunshine everywhere, and her kind words and good deeds will long be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. She leaves three sons to mourn her loss, J. B. and Henry Gray of Des Moines, and L. B. Gray of Chicago, and five grandchildren.
