Sudden Death of A.J. Gray
Mr. Andrew Jackson Gray died at his home in Des Moines, the 20th inst. The summons came suddenly and in the night. Not feeling well, he arose from his bed and called for stimulants but before they could be furnished Mr. Gray expired. Although advanced in years, being within three days of eighty-four years, Mr. Gray's rugged constitution was such that death was not thought of at this time. Prior to three years ago Mr. Gray was a resident of Hampton, having removed to this city from Vermont in 1884, and old friends here will learn of his death with sorrow. Mr. Gray was a man of large means and a most capable and careful financier, and in his lifetime of eighty-four years he has accumulated property to the value of a quarter of a million dollars or more. His wife and three sons, L.B. Gray, of Chicago, and J.B. and Henry Gray, of Des Moines, survive him. The remains of Mr. Gray were taken to his boyhood home in Vermont for burial, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gray.
