HAMPTON CHRONICLE, Thursday, August 13, 1914:

"V. E. SHROYER CALLED

"Well Known Geneva Man Passes Away
"V. E. Shroyer died last Monday afternoon at his home in Geneva, after a several months' illness. While he had been able to be around until a few days before his death his friends were aware of the fact that his death was but a matter of a short time.
"He was born in this county, in Reeve township, on December 10th, 1869, and has been a resident of this county all of his life with the exception of a few years while engaged in business in Dows. For a number of years he was engaged in the harness trade in this city with B. G. Cunningham, now of Alexander. Later he moved to Dows, where he followed the same line of work, and a few years ago he moved to Geneva, having purchased a harness shop at that place, and since which time he has been enjoying a good business until his health gave out.
"He was united in marriage to Miss Eva Richardson, of this city in the month of March, 1907, who survives him. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Lewis Shroyer, two brothers, D. W. and M. L. Shroyer, who live south of town, and a sister, Mrs. James A. Green, of Alexander. Vic Shroyer was always a kind hearted, jovial fellow, and had lots of friends who will remember him kindly.
"The funeral services, which were in charge of Rev. Charles rogers, pastor of the Methodist church at Geneva, were held at the Methodist church in this city, yesterday afternoon, and were largely attended by friends from Geneva and Dows. About 50 people were over from Dows to attend the services. Burial was made in the Hampton cemetery."
