From HAMPTON CHRONICLE, Hampton, Iowa, Thursday, February 12, 1942: "DEATH TAKES JAMES GREEN
"James A. Green died in his home at 2:35 o'clock, last Saturday morning, February 7th. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. W.C. Cleworth, of the Methodist church, in Hampton, were held at the Green home, Monday, February 9th, at 3:00 p.m. Burial was made in the Hampton cemetery.
"He was born in Monroeville, Huron county, Ohio, April 10, 1854, the son of Thomas and Mary Caffrey. After the death of his parents, James Caffrey, by request of his mother, in her last illness, went to live with his cousins, Mr. and Mrs. George Green, at Tontogany, Wood county, Ohio, and he became known as James Green.
"In 1876, he came to Reeve township, in Franklin county, and worked for his uncle, William Raymond. He was united in marriage to Miss Clarissa Jane Shroyer, in February, 1879. Mr. and Mrs. Green began housekeeping on a farm three miles south of Hampton, and in March, 1882, they moved to a farm near Alexander, where they resided for thirty-five years, during which time he was actively engaged in farming and stock raising.
"The family moved to Hampton in March, 1917, and on February 23, 1934, Mr. and Mrs. Green celebrated their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary. Mrs. Green died on October 9, 1935.
"To this union six children were born, Lloyd M. Green and Ernest Ray Green, of Alexander; Claude William Green, whose death occurred at the age of four years, George Lewis Green, of Chapin, and Miss Harriet Green, and Miss Agnes Green, at home. Besides the surviving children there are eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Hattie Williams, of Cleveland, Ohio."
