HAMPTON CHRONICLE, June 13, 1940, page six:
"W. S. Heuermann Goes to His Final Reward
"Had Been Hampton Resident Over Forty Years
"William S. Heuermann, long time resident of this community, passed away at his home south of Hampton last Saturday, following an extended illness. He had been unable to be around for some time on account of a stroke he suffered three or four years ago.
"For many years he was a familiar figure in business affairs in Hampton, having owned and operated a cafe and confectionery trade here for many years, and he did a prosperous business, finally selling his interests and moving to his farm four miles south of town. "Bill" Heuermann, as he was familiarly known by his large circle of friends was a loyal friend, reliable in all of his business dealings, and during his active days never failed to do his full share in promoting the interests of his home community.
"William Sherman Heuermann was born in Davenport, May 11, 1865, and when a boy moved to Oak Park, Illinois, with his parents, and grew to manhood there, learning his trade as a confectioner. His marriage to Miss Nettie Jane Staley took place at Sioux City in September, 1889, and they came to Hampton forty four years ago, and he resided here since except for a few years spent in Butler county. He retired from active business life about six years ago. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge, the Encampment and the Rebekah lodge for many years.
"The deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. W. S. Heuermann, and three children, Mrs. Henry Bock, William S. Heuermann, Jr., and Mrs. W. S. Little, all of Hampton.
"Funeral services, conducted by Rev. W. C. Cleworth, pastor of the Methodist church, were held Monday afternoon at the Fox funeral home and burial was made in Hampton cemetery."
